2008 Moscow Picnic Meeting
What started out as a experiment turned into an event that can't be missed.
Moscow Station Great Location
Moscow Station and Freight house turn out to be fun location for Chapter Picnic Meeting.
The first event was done on a trial basis. No one was sure if it was going to work as Moscow is far for people in Luzerne county and a way in the country for people in Lackawanna County.
The historic DL&W Station, the old wooden freight house (perfect for a slide show) and the rustic location that lend to a picnic make it the perfect place for our Chapter to meet.

Congratulations are in order as Vee Pauli takes over as Chapter President. After 10 years as President, Paul Hart decided to server in another manner and did not to run in recent election. Vee presented Paul with a commemorative plaque at the January meeting.
ELDCPS sponsored Train at Moscow Station
The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society sponsored its Pocono Mountain Excursions. The trains consisted of Dining, Pullman and Lounge cars pulled by an E unit in Erie colors and a D-L unit.
On Saturday November 10th, 2007 the ELDCPS train operated between Scranton and Cresco. The trains also made station stops at Gouldsboro, Tobyhanna.
Paul Hart remarked at a past meeting that "this was probably the first time a passenger train left from Moscow Station in 40 years...".
The webmaster rode the trip from Moscow to Cresco with his nephew. With a light dusting of snow on the ground in some places, it was a very nice trip.

As the webmaster took a ride through the Austin Heights section of Old Forge, a sign saying 3 properties were up for sale.
The former St. Stanislaus Catering Hall where to Chapter used to meet, along with the Church and another building are for sale as part of the Diocese of Scranton's restructuring.
Laurel Line Facts
The Laurel Line last ran in 1952. This means that in 2008, the line has been not operated as a whole for 56 years.
The Pittston to Wilkes-Barre segment last saw a CONRAIL train circa 1976.
This section of the line has been abandoned for 32 years and traced of it are getting hard to find.
What would we give now to have a mass transit system like the Laurel Line in this era of high fuel costs ?

New Rocky Glen Park Historical Marker
At the beginning of August, 2008, the PA State Museum and Historical Commission dedicated a new historical marker near the former Rocky Glen Park.
The webmaster has yet to visit the new marker. The marker recalls this popular park that had its heyday when the Laurel Line connected it to Scranton, Wikes-Barre and all the other surrounding communities.
