Briefly About Our Chapter ...

We are a chapter of the National Rail Historical Society. Our coverage area is mainly Northeastern PA from Honesdale to Hazelton. The chapter is interested in the preservation of historic rail equipment. The main project of the chapter is the restoration of the Boston & Maine 3713 .

Currently the 3713 is at Steamtown, NHS in Scranton, PA, undergoing restoration work. When the 3713 is restored to operating condition, it will be used in excursion run service at Steamtown.

Another important project is the publishing of the Chapter's Annual Railway Calendar. It features photos from both fallen flags and operating railroads, chiefly in the Northeast PA area. Most photos in the calendar are from the collections of Chapter Members.

The coverage area of the Chapter is Northeastern PA from Scranton to Hazelton Our Chapter members are fans of many fallen flag railroads that ran throughout the region. Some of the Chapter's favorite fallen flags are the Lackawanna, the Erie, the Lehigh Valley, the Pennsylvania, the New York, Ontario and Western, the Wilkes-Barre & Eastern, and the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley (The Laurel Line).

Chapter members follow the ever changing railroading scene in Northeastern PA. The NS, regional line Reading & Northern, and short lines Delaware-Lackawanna and Luzerne & Susquehanna are closely watched by the Chapter.

The Chapter also closely follows the activities of the Steamtown National Historic Site and the Electric City Trolley Museum. Many of our members work as volunteers or employees at both museums.
