Lackawanna and Wyoming Valley RHS

Correction

The photos that Mike "Brezzy" Bischak submitted were incorrectly put in the "guest" photo section.

Mike is actually a Chapter Member, although he is not able to attend many meetings because he is busy working on the R&N.

Thanks for the photos.

2008 Moscow Picnic Meeting

What started out as a experiment turned into an event that can't be missed.

Moscow Station Great Location

Moscow Station and Freight house turn out to be fun location for Chapter Picnic Meeting.

The first event was done on a trial basis. No one was sure if it was going to work as Moscow is far for people in Luzerne county and a way in the country for people in Lackawanna County.

The historic DL&W Station, the old wooden freight house (perfect for a slide show) and the rustic location that lend to a picnic make it the perfect place for our Chapter to meet.

Santa Trains at Moscow Station

In late November and early December 2008, the Chapter turned historic Moscow Station and the Freight House into a Christmas destination.

Various activities for the children included crafts, watching the new HO layout and the Lionel Layout and talking to Santa.

Refreshements were served by Chapter Members (as always) to the train patrons.

A light coating of snow made Moscow look like Christmas

Laurel Line Facts

The Laurel Line last ran in 1952. This means that in 2008, the line has been not operated as a whole for 56 years.

The Pittston to Wilkes-Barre segment last saw a CONRAIL train circa 1976.

This section of the line has been abandoned for 32 years and traced of it are getting hard to find.

What would we give now to have a mass transit system like the Laurel Line in this era of high fuel costs ?

New Rocky Glen Park Historical Marker

At the beginning of August, 2008, the PA State Museum and Historical Commission dedicated a new historical marker near the former Rocky Glen Park.

The webmaster has yet to visit the new marker. The marker recalls this popular park that had its heyday when the Laurel Line connected it to Scranton, Wikes-Barre and all the other surrounding communities.
